In our weekly series, BandsOnABudget.com goes through the dregs to bring you the best in DIY focused news, tips, and advice on the topics of touring, marketing, promoting, social media, PR, & more.

1. Merch Table Basics

We love merch, if you can’t tell. Having a merch table is important for whatever venue you are playing. Some of our favorites on this list is clear signage and keeping a ledger! Happy selling!

2. How To Get A Wikipedia Page For Your Music

Google searches are becoming increasingly important, and it can be difficult to get listed. Google suggests that having a Wikipedia page will increase your chances of being listed, but getting one isn’t so straightforward. Bandzoogle’s Dave Cool gives you guidelines on creating a page that has a better chance of being accepted. Remember, neutrality is key.

3. 101 SEO Tips

This is more on the business side, but it’s in the same vein as before. Search Engine Optimization can help you get listed on google, but there is no clear way on how it works. Venture Harbour gives you a checklist (complete with jargon and their definitions!) on how to best optimize this form of content marketing.

4. What Every Musician Should Have When They Hire A Publicist

If you’re thinking of going down this route, there are some basic things you need to better help a PR campaign. DIY Musician gives you the low down on what you need and why. Includes advice from PR Experts and what they expect. Interesting if you’re thinking of adding a publicist to your team.

5. Portugal. The Man Releases "Endangered" Earth Day Song

Since it is Earth Day today, it is only appropriate we talk about this. Portugal. The Man has released their song “Sumatran Tiger” on 400 vinyl albums, which is the estimated number of tigers that still roam Sumatra. The vinyl themselves disintegrate and disappear after repeated listens, so listeners with USB-enabled record players are asked to upload the song. Pretty innovative idea for such an important cause.
