FESTIVALS YOU SHOULD BE SUBMITTING TO

With Coachella kicking off festival season on April 11, it is now your time to start playing festivals. A lot of festivals will accept new acts via submissions. But it’s always worth doing some digging and finding a contact or a promoter that you can email directly. We have compiled a list of smaller, independent festivals that would we recommend putting on your radar.

The Move Music Festival in Albany, NY is a great festival for indie and alternative acts. Taking place from April 25-27, the festival headliner is Magic Man. Submissions are still open: www.movemusicfest.com/

The Fest 13 takes place every year in venues across Gainesville, FL. Nothing besides the dates have been announced yet (Oct 31-Nov 2), but this punk festival never fails to disappoint with past headliners such as The Bouncing Souls, Lucero, and Frank Turner. Brooklyn will be once again be hosting The Northside Festival from June 12-19. This music and film festival is currently accepting submissions through SonicBids at a $15 entry fee. This festival is primarily for alternative, punk, and metal music. http://northsidefestival.com/

The Underground Music Showcase, or The UMS, will be in Denver, Colorado from July 24-27. No information has been released on submissions, so keep keep checking back because this is one of the best showcases in the country for up-and-coming indie bands.http://www.theums.com/

Atlanta, Georgia is home to two festivals that you can submit to depending on your genre. The IMR Music Festival from June 12-15 is an indie music festival that accepts a large amount of bands from submissions. This year, they will accept 35 bands from submissions alone. There is a $10 submission fee. http://www.imrmusicfestival.com/

If you’re a hop hop act check out Atlanta’s A3C festival. Last year, Schoolboy Q and Meek Mill were among some of the artists that performed. The festival is from October 8-12 and they are currently accepting submissions. There is a $20 submission fee; if you do not get chosen to play you get $25 off a festival pass just for submitting. http://www.a3cfestival.com/

The Midpoint Music festival in Cincinnati, Ohio will take place from September 25-27 this year and will feature all kinds of rock and indie music. They are currently accepting submissions for a $25 fee. http://www.mpmf.com/

The KAHBANG music festival in Bangor, Maine is an indie festival from August 7-10. Last year’s headliners were Earl Sweatshirt and Dr. Dog, both of whom grew in popularity after the festival. They are accepting around 35 acts through ReverbNation and will accept around 5 others through various competitions. This music festival focuses on discovery of emerging acts: http://kahbang.com/

Looking to go abroad? goNorth and Pouzza Fest are two solid options. goNorth takes place in Inverness, Scotland and is open to all genres. They will be accepting bands through submission and will have industry professionals there scouting new acts. The festival is from June 4-5 and it is FREE to submit. http://gonorthfestival.co.uk

Pouzza Fest is a punk rock fest in Montreal, Canada that takes place in venues across the city. This year, bands like The Menzingers, The Front Bottoms, and The Flatliners will be playing.
