The Wonderful World of Youtube Cards

In our weekly series, BandsOnABudget.com goes through the dregs to bring you the best in DIY focused news, tips, and advice on the topics of touring, marketing, promoting, social media, PR, & more.

1. Youtube Cards

Annotations are becoming a thing of the past! It’s officially time to join the world of Youtube cards. These mobile friendly cards that you can include on your band’s videos will allow you to raise funds, sell merch, and make all sorts of announcements. Don’t worry, annotations won’t be completely erased until Youtube cards have the ability to do everything annotations were once able to do...plus more.

2. How to Pretend You’re at SXSW

If you’ve been following music news at all, you should know that SXSW is well underway at this point. In fact, it seems to be everything that anyone is talking about (including us). But if you’re like us and you’re not enjoying the annual festivities in Austin right now, don’t be upset! Hypebot has given us the secret on how to pretend that you’re at SXSW from the comfort of your own home.

3. Crowdfunder Musicraiser makes it way to the US

Similar to business model of Kickstarter, this crowdfunding platform has seen substantial success overseas. Starting in Italy, Musicraiser has raised over 1.6m euros in funding. Their newest expansion into NYC could definitely help your band raise some money for those upcoming projects.

4. How Versatile is your Band?

It’s always a good idea to know your music from every different angle. This means practicing with your usual full band, but also practicing in a stripped down, acoustic setting. But this doesn’t mean that your bassist should buy and acoustic bass guitar. Never buy acoustic basses. Anyways, your band’s adaptability can lead to a bunch of different opportunities. Aside from your band’s convenience of lugging around less gear when you play acoustic sets, your fans see some benefits from this too.

5. Email Auto-responders for Musicians

It’s no secret that email lists are a necessity for bands and businesses. However, the complication arises after you build that huge email list. Often, bands are sitting on a long list of emails without any content to send to them. It’s all right though, we know that it seems time consuming to cultivate the best emails for all of these fans. However, auto-responders can definitely help with this issue. Setting up automatic emails that get sent to your fans helps them and it helps you too.
