Musician Spotlight: Pamela Flores

Where are you from?

Currently reside in Bradley Beach but I grew up in Sayreville ,NJ

How would you describe your sound to someone who's never heard your music before?

I'm definitely influenced by blues rock- muscle shoals type sound. Jazz as well, Duke Ellington and Cole Porter are some of my favorite composers which I guess is a reflection of my theatre background. Whether or not this shows in my music I guess depends on who's listening! haha.

What's the name of your latest release and where can we find it?

I just released my first EP which is so insane to say! Eric Silvergold produced it and I had some really talented musicians play on it. I couldn't be more grateful for the experience. You can find two of my original songs on my band camp page or get a copy of the CD directly from me!

Who are your top three music influences?

I know this is so cliche to say but Janis Joplin is a heavy influence… there's a reason why this woman is still so relevant today she was an absolute powerhouse. Not just in her voice but her performances as well. Thankfully I grew up with my parents listening to some pretty sweet music… Bob Dylan was constantly played as well as Bonnie Raitt and all types of classic rock with some Mercedes Sosa thrown in the mix. Since I grew up in the 90s I listened to a lot of r&b girl groups like SWV and En Vogue which my parents of course encouraged. They aren't musicians themselves but they love and deeply appreciate music which that in itself influenced me. And then of course there's Selena! I thought it was so cool that there was a bilingual artist who was getting loads of recognition and respect both in the US and Latin America. One day I hope to come out with a Spanish album.

What are you top three favorite local venues?

Stone Pony is of course a classic, I'd love to play there! The Saint is always good vibes.. love everyone that works there. And Asbury Lanes- it was the first place I saw a show in AP many years ago and it just defines Asbury for me.

Which musician would you grab a beer with?

Alive? Britney Howard from Alabama Shakes… girls got soul I'm sure she'd be awesome to hang out with.

Have you been to Asbury Fresh before?

Yes!! I love it!

Which vendor are you looking forward to checking out?

I've already bought a few lovely pieces of jewelry from Luna Rayne as well as Salt and Steel. I can't get enough of their jewelry!

If you had your own vendor table, what would you sell?

I feel like it's random but I love making and creating home decor. Every piece of furniture I own I bought off of craigslist that I then sanded down and distressed. Or I would find like a huge tree branch and somehow make that into a wall hanger. My sister-in-law is great at making these types of crafts as well, it would be great to start a project with her in that area of creativity- maybe on day!
