Musician Spotlight: Chris Brown

Enjoy live music at Asbury Fresh this summer! Asbury Fresh is a artisan and farmers market that happens twice a week in Asbury Park, NJ and since Bands on a Budget loves supporting our local musicians, we invited 10 different talented artists from New Jersey to perform each Thursday night at Asbury Fresh for the rest of the summer!

This Thursday on August 6th at 7pm we're excited to see the one and only Chris Brown aka Brownie. He's a beloved Bartender down at Bond Street Bar in Asbury and can make one hell of a drink AND can sing his heart out with an acoustic guitar. Let's get to know a little more, shall we?

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND TO SOMEONE WHO'S NEVER HEARD YOUR MUSIC BEFORE?

I'm a folk/punk singer songwriter with songs ranging from folky ballads to bar room singalongs. Think if Chuck Ragan, The Pogues, and Frank Turner had a drunk musical baby-I thinks sound fits somewhere in there.

WHAT'S THE NAME OF YOUR LATEST RELEASE AND WHERE CAN WE FIND IT?

My latest release is, Anchor, which I was lucky to record with my bud Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls. It's available on all digital download sites like iTunes, Amazon, etc as well as hard copies for sale at Arcade Radio, America's Cup, Holdfast Records and Bond St. Bar in Asbury Park as well as Jack's Music Shoppe in Red Bank. I also have an online store at www.deadenergycollective.com

WHAT ARE YOU TOP THREE FAVORITE LOCAL VENUES?

Asbury Lanes, Anchor's Bend, and Asbury Park Yacht Club

IF YOU HAD TO LISTEN TO ONE RECORD ON REPEAT WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Weezer - The Blue Album because it's a seamless collection of songs that'perfectly blends pop hooks/construction, punk rock energy, and clever, storytelling lyricism.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PIECE OF GEAR WITHIN YOUR RIG?

It's a toss up between my 1975 Gibson J200 my Dad gave me or my Gibson J45 Custom which is the first brand new guitar I bought myself.

Have you been to Asbury Fresh before?

I have been and I think it's an awesome little market!

If you had your own vendor table, what would you sell?

I would sell art my wife Maggie Brown made and I've got a little project at home on the back burner that I might try to get going on sometime soon😉
